2348 JACQUEMONT (V.). VOYAGE DANS L'INDE, pendant les Années
1828 à 1832. 4 vols. (text), 2 vols. (atlas), folio, with 4 maps, 83 plates
illustrating Geography, Ethnology, and Scenery, 180 plates of Botany,
and 27 coloured plates of Mammals, Birds, Insects, Reptiles, Fishes,
Mollusca, and Crustacea; half morocco
Paris, 1841-44

Few scientific expeditions have been followed by results of equal importance with
this, or have been productive of such a varied and rich collection of objects of study.
Geology, geography, meteorology, owe no less to it than botany, zoology, and universal
history. The author studied with uniform attention the manners, institutions,
languages, commerce, and the natural and industrial productions of the immense
regions which he traversed.

The chief feature of this curious work is the remarkable series of copper engravings, many of which are distinctly in advance of those of a like character issued during the middle of the 17th century. At p. 55 of the de Quadrupedibus is an interesting engraving of two performing bears.
