De la Colonie. The Chronicles of an old Campaigner. M. de la Colonie, 1692-1717. Translated from the French by WALTER C. HORSLEY, Lieut.-Col. commanding the 20th Middlesex (Artists) R.V. 8vo., pp. xi and 479, with 16 plates; cloth 1904

M. de la Colonie, a French dragoon officer, was scconded for service with the
Bavarian army to organise the regiment formed from roving French soldiers and
deserters of the same nation from the Imperial service. He throws a picturesque light,
not only upon the details of military life and the conditions of war two hundred years
ago, but on the social and political conditions of the countries to which his varied
service led him.

Egypt:
Breasted. Ancient Records of Egypt. Historical Documents
from the Earliest Times to the Persian Conquest. Collected, edited,
and translated with Commentary by JAMES HENRY BREASTED.
5 vols., 8vo.
Chicago, 1906-7
"... Professor Breasted's Ancient Records of Egypt', the final volume of
which containing the indices has lately appeared. It is a monumental work, of which
any country might be proud, and the University of Chicago is to be congratulated
upon finding the scholar to achieve it and providing the means to give it to the world.
Every inscription or fragment of papyrus bearing upon the history of Pharaonic Egypt
has been laid under contribution; Professor Breasted has himself re-examined and
revised the texts of most of them, and the translations have been made in accordance
with the latest doctrines of grammatical Egyptology. How the work can have been
accomplished in so comparatively short a space of time is a marvel."-Saturday
Review, 31 Aug., 1907.

Since the year 1895, when Professor Flinders Petrie's book on Historical Scarabs became "out of print," the want of a comprehensive work on these interesting little Egyptian antiquities has been much felt. Two volumes on Egyptian Scarabs, it is true, have been published since that date, but these works treat of private collections and do not claim to deal with the subject in its entirety or even in a scientific manner. Part I. 4to., pp. 27, with 22 plates (3 COLOURED); Chicago, 1906 "In stating the provenance of many of the objects contained in the plates, I have often only the statements of dealers or Arabs to rely on, still I am very sure that objects catalogued as coming from Negadeh, Abydos, and Dimeh did come from those very sites.

"Stone implements figured in these pages are representative specimens from a large collection, the majority of which are Fayum surface finds. A specimen of every common Fayum type, and a few of the more unusual forms are given.

"As my collection is steadily growing, I have arranged to publish this catalogue in several volumes."-Author's Preface.
