Shakspere (Two Gentlemen of Verona, act 1. scene 3) has a line very similar to one of Hill's-Antonio, addressing Proteus, says— "My will is something sorted with his wish; Muse not that I thus suddenly proceed; For what I will, I will, and there an end." A curious illustration of this error occurred on the occasion of Ebenezer Elliott, the corn-law rhymer, lecturing some years ago in Manchester on Pope's works. In the course of his lecture Elliott pointedly criticised these lines as being Pope's.
