About the author (1978)

Geoffrey Farthing (1909-2004) was a lifelong student of Theosophy and well known in theosophical circles. Born in Stockport, England, Geoffrey grew up in Yorkshire, England, before going to school in Stowe, Buckinghamshire. By training, he was a professional Chartered Electrical Engineer. He began his career with the Central Electricity Board before joining the Territorial Army just before the outbreak of World War II, where he rose to the rank of Major with the Royal Signals. Following the war he became Chief Commercial Engineer for the Yorkshire Electricity Board until his retirement when he began work for the Theosophical Society.Geoffrey worked for the Theosophical Society for the next 30 years in many capacities, including lecturing, writing, and committee work. During this time he served as General Secretary of the English Section for 3 years. He also served for several years on the Executive Committee of the European Federation and as director of the European School of Theosophy.In 1996, Geoffrey Farthing was awarded the International Theosophical Society's highest award, "The Subba Row Medal" for outstanding contribution to theosophical literature. His books included, Theosophy--What's It All About?, Exploring the Great Beyond, When We Die, Deity Cosmos, and Man, and After Death Consciousness.
