Preamble. Perfons &c, ap. prebending any Deferter and delivering him up to any commanding officer in this Pro vince, to receive, upon a certificate thereof, a reward of £10. CA P. MI. ! AN ACT for the encouragement of perfons who fhall apprehend Deserters from His Majefty's regular Forces in this Province. (2d. May, 1804.) HEREAS from the local fituation of this Province, fome further provision than the general Laws of the Empire afford, is neceffary for the encouragement of perfons who apprehend Deferters: Be it enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legiflative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower Canada, conftituted and affembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act paffed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, " An Act to "repeal certain parts of an A&t paffed in the fourteenth year of His Majefty's Reign, "intituled, "An Act for making more effectual provifion for the Government of the Pro"vince of Quebec in North America;" and to make further provifion for the Government of the faid Province;" and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the fame, that from and after the paffing of this Act, any Perfon or Perfons, not being in His Majefty's regular Forces in this Province, who fhall, apprehend any Deferter or Defere ters from fuch regular Forces, and deliver up fuch Deferter or Deferters to any Officer commanding any military Poft in this Province, fhall for each and every fuch De ferters or Deferters fo apprehended and delivered up, be entitled to and fhall receive, in the manner herein after directed, a Reward of Ten Pounds, current money of this Province, upon producing a Certificate of fuch apprehension and delivery, fpecifying the name or names of fuch Deferter or Deferters, and to what Regiment or Corps he or they belong, figned by the Officer fo commanding and by any Justice of the Peace for the District before whom fuch Deferter or Deferters fhall be brought, which Cer tificate fuch Officer and Juftice of the Peace are hereby authorized and required to grant. To be paid out the hands of any public officer. The receipt of and the aforefaid II. And in order to enable any Perfon or Perfons entitled thereto, to receive the reward before mentioned with as much facility and at as little expence as circumstances will admit: Be it further enacted, that any public Officer holding monies levied under the authority of any Act of the Provincial Parliament of this Province, is hereby authothe faid reward rized and required to pay the reward before mentioned out of any fuch monies in his certificate to be hands, and the Certificate aforefaid together with a receipt for the fum of the Person taken in difcharge or Perfons receiving fuch reward, certified by two witneffes, fhall be received and taken in discharge of fo much of the account of fuch public Officer as fhall pay the fame, and all money paid in manner aforefaid out of any Fund by Law appropriated fhall be replaced to fuch Fund out of any unappropriated money remaining in the hands of the Receiver General of this Province, of fo much of his account. May, 1804,) E, Your Majefty's most dutiful and loyal Subjects, the Legiflative Council and Reprefentatives of Your People of Lower Canada, having taken into our most ferious confideration the neceffity of further continuing the provifions made by an Act paffed in the forty first year of Your Majefty's Reign, intituled, " An Act for the "relief of Infane Perfons, and for the fupport of Foundlings," which faid A&t provides for the fecuring and fupporting fuch indigent perfons as, from a temporary or lafting derangement of intellect, are incapable of earning their fubfiftence, for preventing the inhuman practice of expofing and deserting new born infants, and for granting aid and fupport to fuch Religious Communities as receive and maintain fick and infirm Perfons and Foundlings, do moft humbly befeech Your Majefty that it may be enacted, and be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majefty, by sand with the advice and confent of the Legiflative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower Canada, conftituted and affembled by virtue of, and under the authority of an Act paffed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, " An Act to repeal certain parts of an Act paffed in the fourteenth year of His Majesty's Reign, intituled, "An Act for making, "more effectual provifion for the Government of the Province of Quebec in North Ameri"ca;" and to make further provision for the Government of the faid Province;" and it is hereby enacted by authority of the fame, that from and after the palling of thisAct, it fhall and may be lawful to and for His Excellency the Governor, Lieutenant : Governor or Perfon administering the Government of this Province for the time being, out of any unappropriated monies in the hands of the Receiver General of this Province, to apply and appropriate a fum not exceeding One Thousand Pounds per annum, for the relief of fuch unfortunate perfons as may, from derangement of intellect, be incapable of earning their fuftenance, and for the maintenance of fuch new born infants as may be expofed or require protection, and for the aid and support of> fuch Religious Communities as receive and adminifter relief to fick and infirm Perfons and Foundlings; and the faid fum herein appropriated shall be applied in fuch manner and under such regulations as the Governor, Lieutenant Governor or Perfon adminiftering III. May, 1804.) WHEREAS an Act was paffed by the Legislature of this Province in the thirty " year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled, " An Act for making a temporary Provifion for the regulation of trade between this Province and the United States of "America, by Land or by Inland Navigation," which Act will expire at the end of the prefent Seffion of the Provincial Parliament; and Whereas it is expedient further to continue the faid Act: Be it therefore enacted by the King's moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the advice and confent of the Legislative Council and Affembly of the Province of Lower Canada, conftituted and affembled by virtue of and under the authority of an Act paffed in the Parliament of Great Britain, intituled, " An Act to "repeal certain parts of an Act paffed in the fourteenth year of His Majefty's Reign, intituled, "An Act for making more effectual Provifion for the Government of the "Province of Quebec in North America;" and to make further provision for the Government of the faid Province;" and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, that the faid Act, intituled, " An Act for making a temporary Provifion for the regulation of trade between this Province and the United States of America, by Land or "by Inland Navigation," and all matters and things therein contained, fhall continue and be in force until the first day of January, one thoufand eight hundred and five, and from thence to the end of the then next Seffion of the Provincial Parliament, and no longer. Provided, always that all and every Order or Orders issued and published under the authority of the aforefaid Act, or which fhall be iflued and published under the authority of this Act, fhall not continue to be in force longer than to the faid first day of January one thoufand eight hundred and five, and from thence to the end of the then next Seffion of the Provincial Parliament. 66 66 CAP.
