SOLOMON THE WISE said, centuries ago, "Of making many books there is no end; " and a wise man of later times says that no author should add another to the number of books already in the world, unless he can give a good reason for its being. In extenuation of my offense in this respect, I would plead, I did not make the book, it grew.

For many years a teacher in the Girls' High School, I have been constantly on the alert to find the best way of impressing upon the hearts and minds of my pupils the great principles of right and truth and justice, that lie at the foundation of all good character.

Many plans have been tried, and among them that of placing before the pupils each day a quotation which should contain some truth that
