PREFACE. Ir is now about six years since the first edition of this work appeared, and for upwards of two years it has been out of print. In the preparation of the present volume the book has been re-modelled and, in great part, re-written. Much new matter has also been added. It may be said, indeed, to form a new work, and no pains have been spared in carrying out the endeavour to render it more worthy the favorable reception that was accorded to its predecessor. Availing himself also of the experience that has been thrown in his way through the medium of the first publication, the author hopes that his efforts to produce a more useful treatise upon diabetes to the medical practitioner have not been fruitlessly exerted. The views introduced into the first edition upon the subject of glycogenesis have been confirmed by the author's subsequent experience, and also by the experimental results obtained by other physiologists, both |
