First issue of the 1st Edn. Mr. T. J. Wise says: "It is stated on good authority that less than 20 copies were issued before the book was withdrawn from circulation.” It was re-issued with a new title, bearing Moxon's name, with the leaf of errata often lacking. This copy also is one of a very few sent out with the misprinted label, which reads "A. G. Swinburne" instead of " A. C. Swinburne." The book was " Affectionately inscribed to Dante Gabriel Rossetti," and this is the "dedication copy," having this inscription on the half-title in the author's autograph, "D. G. Rossetti from his friend A. C. Swinburne."

In the "Memoir" it is said: "In 1842 he had eight of the blank-verse poems printed for his private use, because he always liked to see his poems in print before publication. Although the text of this "trial book" was printed from the types used afterwards in the collected edition it differs very materially.
