Shepherds were who received the tidings of Chrift's birth, Luk. 2.8. This place is called the Tower of the flock, Micah 48.) and mentioned there as a place that fhould be dignified at the appearance of the Meffiah. One Chaldee Paraphraft on this place tells us exprefsly, that this is the place where the King Meffiah was to be revealed in the last days.

The Wives and Children of Efau : He removes to Mount Seir. The Dukes which defcended from him. The Sons and Dukes of Seir. Kings of Edom and Dukes.

2. His Wives: Who had feveral Names as well as he. See the Note on ch. 28. 9. and ch. 26. 34. The daughter of Zibeon:

i. e. Grand child of Zibeon, referring it to Abolibamah. And thus is Anah here diftinguished from him, mentioned (v. 20.) the one being the Brother, the other the Son of Zibeon. (Compare v. 24. the Greek here, and v. 14.)

3. And Bahemath Ishmael's

daughter, fifter of Nebajoth.

gave this place to Efau, Deut. 2.5. Josh. 24. 4.

9. And these are the generations of Efan the father of the Edomites, in mount Seir.

10. These are the names of Efau's fons; Eliphaz the Son of Adah the wife of Efau, Reuel the Son of Bafhemath the wife of Efau.

15. Dukes: These Dukes, mentioned from this to the 19th, Verfe, are to be taken for the Heads of the Families from Efau.

16. Korah: He is not mentioned a mong the Sons of Eliphaz, (v. 11, 12.) and probably was his Grand-child.

17. And thefe are the fons of Reuel Efau's fon; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah. These are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom: thefe are the fons of Bafhemath Efau's wife.

18. And these are the fons of Aholibamah Efau's wife; duke Fenfb, duke Jaalam, duke Korab: thefe were the dukes that came of Abolibamah the daughter of Anah Efau's wife.

19. Thefe are the fons of Efau (who is Edom) and these are their dukes.

20. Thefe are the fons of Seir the Horite, who inhabited the land; Lotan, and Shobal, and Zibeon, and Anah

fau's Family, who fucceeded the Horites in the poffeffion of their Country, Deut.2. 12. with verse 22.

21 And Dishon, and Ezer, and Difhane thefe are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom.

22. And the children of Lotan were Hori, and He

man: and Lotan's fifter was Timna.

23. And the children of Shobal were thefe; Alvan, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.
