Fourfoore years old: This agrees well with Act. 7. 30. and fpeaks God's Power and Providence, V. 2 Cor. 12.9. Mofes, and unto Aa 9. A ferpent: V ch.4.3. The Greek render it a Dragon. 10. And Mofes and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did fo as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron caft down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his fervants, and it became a ferpent. II. Then 11. Then Pharaoh also called the wifemen, and the forcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their in 11. The magicians: Jannes and Jambres withstood Mofes; fays the Apostle, 2 Tim. 3. 8. and the Chaldee Paraphrase chantments. (called Jonathan's) calls them Janis and Jambres. These Magicians are mentioned not onely among the Jewish Writers, but among the Heathen allo; particularly, by Apu leins. With their inchantments: i. e. With their fecret fleights or jugglings: The Hebrew word is thought to import an hidden and fecret, and therefore a commonly unaccountable, Art. 12. For they caft down every man bis rod, and they became ferpents: but Aaron's rod fwallowed up their rods. 12. They became ferpents: Not without the Divine Per miffion: But then their Rods which be came Serpents were swallowed up by the Rod of Aaron And though the Magicians turned Water into Blood, and brought Frogs upon Egypt, we do not find that they were able to turn that Blood into Water, and fend away the Frogs which they had brought upon the Land, as Mofes did (ch. 8. 13.) They were permitted to punish, but had not power to relieve the Egyptians. 13. And he hardened Pharaoh's beart, that he bearkened not unto them, as the LORD had faid. 13. And be hardened Pharaoh's heart: Or, And Pharaoh's heart waxed strong, hardened, as the Vul or hard: i. e. Pharaoh's Heart was gar and Chaldee render it. And we find the fame words in the Hebr. fo rendered (v. 22.) not onely by the Greek and Latin, but by the English Verfion alfo.
