22. And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt; upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.

23. And Mofes ftretched forth his rod toward heaven, and the LORD fent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt.

24. So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, fuch as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt, fince it became a nation.

25. And the bail fmote throughout all the land of Egypt, all that was in the field, both man and beaft: and the hail fmote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field.

26. Onely in the land of Goshen, where the children of Ifrael were, was there no hail.

30. But as for thee and thy fervants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God.

31. And the flax, and the barley was fmitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled.

32. But the wheat and the rie were not fmitten: for they were not grown up.

33. And Mofes went out of the city from Pharaoh, and fpread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.

34. And when Pharaoh faw, that the rain, and the bail, and the thunders were ceased, he finned yet more, and bardned his heart, he and his fervants.

35. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardned, neither would he let the children of Ifrael go; as the LORD had spoken by Mofes.

The ARGUMENT:

Pharaoh is threatned with a moft grievous Plague of Lo cufts: Upon this, and his Servants request, he inclines to terms: But they being refufed, God fends the Plague of Locusts, and removes them at his request. After which he refufeth to let the people go. After this fucceeded the Plague of Darkness. Pharaoh is hardned, and warneth Mofes to come no more into his prefence.

heart, and the heart of his fervants; that I might fhew thefe my figns before him:

2. And that thou mayeft tell in the ears of thy Son, and of thy fons Jon, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my figns which I have done amongst them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD.

of the Suri, and hinder the Egyptians from feeing the Earth, which agrees very well with what follows in this Verfe, and with verf. 15. [vid. Abravenel, and the Chaldee on the place.] The refidue: Ch. 9:32. Every tree: Though the Trees were broken by the Hail, yet it does not thence follow that they were altogether rendred unfruitfull.

11. Not fo, go now ye that are men, and ferve the LORD, for that you did defire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's pre fence.

12. And the LORD faid unto Mofes, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt, for the locufts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.

13. And Mofes ftretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night: and when it was morning, the eaft-wind brought the locufts.

14 And the locufts went up over all the land of Egypt, and refted in all the coafts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no fuch locufts as they, neither after them fhall be fuch.

14. Before them there were no fuch,&c. and the hurt which For their multitude, not been the like,nor they did, there had fhould there be in the Land of Egypt: What we read (Joel 1.2. ch. 2. 2.) is not repugnant to what is affirmed here.

15. For they covered the face of the whole earth, fo that the land was darkned, and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees, which the bail' had left and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.
