CHAP. XL.

The ARGUMENT.

Mofes is commanded to set up the Tabernacle, and to anoint it. Aaron and his Sons are to be fanctified. These things are done as is commanded.

2. On the first day of the first month fhalt thou fet up the tabernacle of the tent of the congregation.

3. And thou shalt put therein the ark of the teftimony, and cover the ark with the veil.

3. The ark of the teftimony: So called, because the Tables of the Law (which is 1490.

fometime called the Testimony, v. 20.) were put into it, ch. 25. 16.

4. And thou shalt bring in the table, and fet in order the things that are to be fet in order upon it, and thou shalt bring in the candle ftick, and light the lamps there

5. And thon fhalt fet the altar of gold for the incenfe before the ark of the teftimony, and put the hanging of the door to the tabernacle.

6. And thou shalt fet the altar of the burnt-offering, before the door of the tabernacle of the tent of the congre gation.

7. And thou shalt fet the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and fhalt put water therein. 8. And thou fhalt fet up the court round about, and hang up the hanging at the court-gate.

the tabernacle and all that is therein, and shalt hallow it, and all the veffels thereof and it shall be boly..

10. And thou shalt anoint the altar of the burnt-offering, and all his veffels, and fanctifie the altar: and it shall be an altar moft boly.

11. Sanctifie it,ie. Separate it to a peculiar and holy use.

12: And thou shalt bring Aaron and his fons unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and wash them with water.

13. And thou shalt put upon Aaron the holy garments, and anoint him, and fanctifie bim; that he may minister "unto me in the priest's office.

14. And thou shalt bring his fons, and clothe them with coats

15. An everlasting priesthood: i. e. The Succeffors of the ordinary Priefts fhall nointed for the funot need to be ature, as the High Priests were. The High Priefts were e

lected, and therefore it was fit they fhould be anointed: But the Priesthood belonged to the other Priests as their Birth-right.

19. And he spread abroad the tent over the tabernacle, and put the covering of the tent above upon it; as the LORD commanded Mofes.

20. And he took, and put the teftimony into the ark, and fet the ftaves on the ark, and put the mercy-feat above upon the ark.

21. And he brought the ark in21. Set: Ch. 35. to the tabernacle, and fet up the 12.

veil of the covering, and covered the ark of the testimony; as the LORD commanded Mofes.

22. And he put the table in the tent of the congregation, upon the fide of the tabernacle north-ward, without the veil.

23. And he fet the bread in order upon it, before the LORD; as the LORD had commanded Mofes.

24. And he put the candlestick in the tent of the congregation, over against the table, on the fide of the tabernacle fouth-ward.

25. And he lighted the lamps before the LORD, as the LORD commanded Mofes.

26. And he put the golden altar in the tent of the congregation, before the veil.

27. And he burnt sweet incenfe thereon, as the LORD commanded Mofes.

28. And he fet up the hanging, at the door of the tabernacle.

30. And he fet the laver between the tent of the congregation and the altar, and put water there, to wash withall.

31. And Mofes, and Aaron and his fons, washed ther bands and their feet thereat.

32. When they went into the tent of the congregation, and when they came near unto the altar, they washed; as the LORD commanded Mofes.

33. And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and fet up the hanging of the courtgate fo Mofes finished the work.

34. Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

35. And Mofes was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.

36. And when the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the children of Ifrael went onward in all their journeys.

37. But if the cloud were not taken up, then they jour neyed not, till the day that it was taken up.

38. For the cloud of the LORD was upon the tabernacle by day, and fire was on it by night, in the fight of all the boufe of Ifrael, throughout all their journeys.
