* These extracts are printed from one of a number of Volumes of the same description preserved in Her Majesty's General Register House.-Valentyne Jeinking the Painter seems to have been well known in his profession, and to have exercised his calling in Glasgow; as appears from the Records of that City. Thus on 20th October 1627, "the Provest Baillies and Counsall hes ordanit the Thesaurer to pay to
