OF TEN THOUSAND TRACTS AND PAMPHLETS, AND FIFTY THOUSAND PRINTS AND DRAWINGS, ILLUSTRATING THE TOPOGRAPHY AND ANTIQUITIES OF ENGLAND, WALES, SCOTLAND, AND IRELAND. Collected during the last Thirty-five Years by the late WILLIAM UPCOTT COLLEGE , 8493.7 Sever fund TO THE READER. THE foundation of these Collections was a purchase made in 1841 from the late WILLIAM UPCOTT, formerly librarian to the London Institution. His object in collecting was to make a more comprehensive Bibliography of the Topography of Great Britain than that which he published in 1818 in three octavo volumes. On his death his manuscript materials were dispersed; some found their way into the British Museum, others into private hands. Since 1841, as opportunities offered, I have added to the Collections, and as purchases were made they were catalogued and priced at the time, so that hundreds of the articles are now worth from five to ten times the value placed on them. The cost of printing the Catalogue, £280 (without binding), will not admit of any reduction of the prices of the articles to Agents; those customers who do not order direct will have to pay their Agent's commission.
