S. copy pages 23-26 are of a soft and much discolored paper, while the remaining pages are of a clean crispness, with the watermarks, vertical lines about an inch apart, clearly traceable. Pages 23-26 show no watermarks, and the pulp of the paper is clotty both to the touch and eye. On p. 17 [i.e. 27] in both copies in that place of the lower margin usually occupied by the signature symbol, is this mark (*). The catchword on p. 23 of the N. Y. P. would seem that the type from which both were printed had not been distributed in the interim of making a later impression, and that the pages following p. 26 in the N. Y. H. S. copy are of an impression later than the corresponding pages in the N. Y. P. L. copy. (Compiler.)
