HYMNS.

1. L. M.

1

ETERNAL GOD! Almighty Cause

Of earth, and seas, and worlds unknown!
All things are subject to thy laws;
All things depend on thee alone.

2

Thy glorious being singly stands,
Of all within itself possest;

By none controll'd in thy commands,
And in thyself completely blest.

3

Worship to thee alone belongs;

Worship to thee alone we give;

Thine be our hearts, and thine our songs,
And to thy glory may we live.

4

Spread thy great name through every land;

In every breast erect thy throne;

Subdue the world to thy command,

And reign unrivall'd, God alone.

1

Ye nations round the earth, rejoice Before the Lord, your sovereign King; Serve him with cheerful heart and voice, And his unrivall'd glories sing.

2

The Lord is God: 'tis he alone
Doth life and all its blessings give;
And still his guardian care we own,
And still upon his bounty live.

3

Enter his gates with songs of joy;
With praises in his courts appear;
And make it your divine employ
To pay your thanks and honours there.

4

For God, and he alone, is good;
His mercy is for ever sure;

His truth hath always firmly stood,

And shall from age to age endure.

3. L. M.

1

GREAT God! in vain man's narrow view
Attempts to look thy nature through:
Our labouring powers with reverence own
Thy glories never can be known.

2

Not the high seraph's mighty thought, Who countless years his God has sought, Such wondrous height or depth can find, Or fully trace thy boundless mind.

3

Yet, Lord! thy kindness deigns to show Enough for mortal man to know;

While wisdom, goodness, power divine, Through all thy works and conduct shine.

4

Oh may our souls with rapture trace
Thy works of nature and of grace:
Explore thy sacred name, and still
Press on to know and do thy will!
