Lo. II, 840. f. giebt dieselben sechs Ausgaben an, doch die erste vom Jahr 1610. Die 5. zu 4 L. 14 S. 6 D. u. s. w.

die 6. zu 1 L. 15 S. 4 L. 14 S. 6 D. mit den Wappen in Farben 7 L. 7 S. groß Papier 9 L. 9 S. 13 L. von Longm. für 4 L. 4 S. von Bo. für 5 L. 5 S. angeboten. Dallaway ist in feinen Angaben nicht zuverläßig. Nach ihm (S. 245) erschie. /nen 8 Ausgaben, deren erste von 1620 sein soll, von welchem Jahre aber sonst nirgends eine Ausgabe angezeigt wird. Da er selbst im append. IV. p. LXIII. eine Ausgabe von 1610 angiebt, so ist wahrscheinlich die Angabe 1620 ein Druckfeh ler. Dies scheint auch mit einer Ausgabe von 1722 (Append. IV. p. LXIII), und einer andern von 1720, die Laycock als die beste für 4 L. 4 S. ausbot, der Fall zu sein. Ein Irthum ist es auch mit einer Ausgabe von 1725 durch J. Coats, bei Jöcher, wo das besonders gedruckte Werk dieses Hers ausgebers: A new dictionary of heraldry etc. von 1725. (S. Nr. 2028) für eine neue Ausgabe des Guillim genoms men worden ist. Die Behauptung, daß John Barkham in feinen jüngern Jahren eigentlich der Verfasser (des Lehrtheiles) des Werkes sei, ist die Ant. Wood's welcher Andere beistimmten, auch Noble in der history of the college of arms, p. 216; allein Moule S. 73. findet dies sehr unwahrs scheinlich, indem das Werk nicht die Arbeit eines jungen Mannes sein könne, sondern fleißige Beschäftigung mit der Sache u. s. w. voraussetze. Jöchers Behauptung, daß die Ausgaben von 1660, und 1679 voll Fehler seien, wird durch keine Gründe unterstüßt, und bezieht sich vielleicht bei der Ausgabe von 1660 darauf, daß diese nicht lange nach ihrem Erscheinen der veränderten Zeitumstände wegen umgedruckt wurde. Von diesen beiden Drucken im Jahre 1660 wird der legte von M. 152. für den feltnern und vorzüglichern erflårt.

S. 301. Nr. 1883. Diese unbedeutende Abhandlung: Von der Heroltskunst, findet sich im 3. Theile des ange= führten Werkes (1643). CXXIX. S. 153 170. und ist kaum eine Lehrschrift zu nennen.

S. 302, Nr. 1887. Spener führt in seinem Opere heraldico unter den von ihm benüßten Werken, (im syllabus praecipuorum autorum) von diesem Verfasser, außer dem trésor héraldique, auch noch eine Schrift an: de l'antiquité des armes, von welcher sich aber sonst nirgends eine Spur findet.

S. 303, Nr. 1888. Upton's Werk ist das älteste wappenlehrliche, und handelt im 1ten Buche, de officio militari im 2ten de bello justo et ejus speciebus, im 3ten de coloribus in armis depictis et eorum nobilitate ac differentia, im 4ten de diversis signis in armis depictis. Bysshe meint, Jo. de Bado aureo sei unter angenommenem Namen Upton selbst; zuweilen findet man aber den Namen Vado aureo geschrieben, so daß es der verlateinte Name von John of Guilford (Guildford) wåre. Dieser de Bado aureo und der damit vers einigte Fr. de Foveis werden im Französischen z. B. von Menestrier (or. d. arm p. 492) Jean de Basdor und François des Fossez angeführt. In dieser Ausgabe des Bysshe nehmen ein: Upton 259, Jo. de Bado aureo 145, Spelman 142. und Bysshe's notae 105 Seiten. (M. 141). Bei Dallaway heißt es S. 152 f. über diese Schriften ziemlich unklar: ,,His treatise, de studio militari, composed in latin, was dedicated to his patron, and consists of four books. 1. Of officers of arms. 2. Of veterans now styled heralds. 2. (so steht gedruckt) Of duels. 3. Of colours. 4. Of figures. Making in the whole a systematic grammar of heraldry; to which are added, »statuta regis Henrici V. tempore Guerre,» he has preserved, and is said to have himhelf written, the treatise on armories published at the end of the foregoing under the title of »Johannes de Bado aureo, or Guilford cum Francisco de Foveis, after he became an ecclesiastic."< Lo.
