This is a reprint from the preceding scarce, and formerly very dear, edition. The author's principal design is to draw a comparison by way of caution to all Protestants, between the wild and pernicious enthusiasms of some of the most eminent Saints of the Popish communion, and those of the Methodists in our country; which latter he severely analyses, and, according to Warburton, successfully exposes. The introduction, added by Polwhele, forms nearly half the volume, and treats at large of the Methodists and Sec. taries of the present day, their conduct, systems, pretences, doctrines, &c.
