In the Introductory Part, we are arrived at a period in which the Literature of England becomes fo various and extenfive, that we cannot comprize our review of it, during a whole reign, within the compafs of a fingle article. To do juftice, in this respect, to the æra of queen Elizabeth, into which we have now entered, will, probably, require the addition of two fucceeding Numbers.

Of our Miscellaneous Department we may safely affert, that it will be found inftructive and entertaining in a high degree, and that there is a variety in it which will.render it.agreeable to readers of the most different taftes and difpotions As to the account of Domestic and Forign Literature, it is sufficient to fay, that it is drawn up with all the care and candour which we have hitherto difplayed, and that we have increasing reafon to be latisfied with the scientific plan on which it was originally formed, and has hitherto been conducted.
