THE " usual conditions" for gaining a Plenary Indulgence, so often alluded to in the following pages, are to approach worthily the Sacraments of Penance and the Blessed Eucha-⚫ rist, and to pray for the intentions of the Sovereign Pontiff. A further condition not unfrequently is required, that the prayers for the intention of the Sovereign Pontiff be recited in some church or public oratory; hence it is a useful and pious practice to comply with this condition before quitting the church or public oratory, after Holy Communion. This Condition of visiting a church or public oratory is required in order to gain the Plenary Indulgence attached to the recital of the following prayers: Litany of Loretto (page 12); Memorare (page 19); Prayer to our Blessed Lady (page 19); Anima Christi (page 71); Ejaculatory Prayer to the Most Holy Trinity (page 143), and to the Blessed Virgin (page 146); For those in their Agony (page 355); Prayer for Peace (page 441); Praises of the Holy Name (page 475). It is not necessary for those who go weekly to Confession, to confess on the day on which they propose to gain a Plenary Indulgence: their weekly Confession will suffice for all the Indulgences that may occur during the week, when confession of sins is required, provided the remaining conditions be complied with. When the letter A is introduced in the following pages, it indicates that the Indulgence so marked is applicable, by way of suffrage, to the Souls in Purgatory.
