The texts printed are-the Hebrew of Van der Hooght and New Test. by Greenfield-the Greek Septuagint-the Latin Vulgate of Sixtus V. and Clement VIII.-the German of Luther-French of Ostervald Italian of Diodati - Spanish of Scio - English of the authorised Version.

This is the first edition of the Hebrew Bible printed in England except that in Walton's Polyglott. Dr. Adam Clarke pronounces it "the most elegant and correct of the Anti-Masoretic Bibles."

"No more curious book in my library, and few rarer. The author, a man of great learning and greater singularity, destroyed a considerable part of the 100 he had printed. Sir Joseph Banks always used to say that the Abbé maintained that the real meaning of the word "Eve" was perforata, and that he would give it so in this version, but he did not, and this was a source of frequent raillery in Soho Square.

VERY BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN in a minute character on the finest Vellum, in double columns, containing upwards of 80 small Miniatures introduced into Initial Letters Illuminated in Gold and Colours, the Capitals generally are also ornamented with Pen Flourishes in various Coloured Inks which depend along the margins.
