PREFACE. IN this Catalogue, the Books which are the property of the Corporation of Norwich, and those which belong to the Public Library, are, for facility of reference, comprehended under the same arrangement; the former being designated by the letters C. L. inserted in the title. Where no place of publication is named, books are for the most part to be considered as having been printed in London. In cases where separate works are contained in a Collection, such works are either enumerated immediately after the general title, in small type, or inserted in the body of the work, with a reference to the Collection in which they are found. Presents to the Library are distinguished by the names of the donors, and by a dagger (†) annexed to them; and an asterisk (*) is prefixed to such works as cannot be taken out of the Library, unless according to the provision of Law XLVI. The present Catalogue follows the division of subjects adopted in the preceding, which was considered to afford a convenient reference to every department of the Library, without going into unnecessary minuteness or refinement.
