PREFACE. "THE MINE" has long been so deservedly popular among young people, and the talents of its very able Author are so well known, that it seems quite unnecessary here to enlarge upon them. In the original work, however, the Staffordshire Coal-Mines were omitted; and some of the details relating to the Copper-Mines were scarcely clear enough for the comprehension of children. In the present Edition, these defects have been supplied; ample details have been given respecting the Staffordshire Mines; additions have been made to other portions of the Work, and the whole has been illustrated by |
