2 Great God ! mine eyes with pleasure look On the dear volume of thy book; And read his name who died for me. 3 Let the false raptures of the mind Be lost, and vanish in the wind; Here I can fix my hope secure; This is thy word, and must endure. 1 LADEN with guilt, and full of fears, And not a glimpse of hope appears, 2 The volume of my Father's grace Here I behold my Saviour's face, 3 Here, consecrated water flows, Here, the fair tree of knowledge grows;- No danger dwells therein. Where wit and reason fail ; Through all this gloomy vale. 5 Oh! may thy counsels, mighty God! Nor I forsake the happy road 4. A Saviour seen in the Scriptures. To thee its grateful tribute bring; My tongue perform its solemn vow. 2 All nature sings thy boundless love, In worlds below, and worlds above; 3 There, what delightful truths I read! There, I behold the Saviour bleed : Revives my heart, and checks my fear. 4 There Jesus bids my sorrows cease, And gives my lab'ring conscience peace, And points to mansions in the sky. 6 For love like this, Oh ! let my song, Through endless years, thy praise prolong; C. M. 5. Revelation welcomed. Dispel the shades of night; The healing beams of light. Restores our wandering feet; To joys divinely sweet. In all their radiant blaze; L. M. 6. The Blessings of the new Covenant. And truth is drawn in fairest lines. 2 Here, sinners of an humble frame May taste his grace, and learn his name; The wisdom, power and grace of God. 4 Oh! grant us grace, almighty Lord'! To read and mark thy holy word, And by its holy precepts live. Close to my heart, and near mine eye, L. M. A written Revelation. Thy head, my Saviour, and my Lord ! And writ the blessings in thy word. Some solid ground to rest upon; Till we apply to Christ alone. How wise and holy thy commands! How firm our hope and comfort stands ! Assault my faith, with treacherous art, L. M. The Power of Truth. Sent to the nations from above; What his almighty grace can do. To heal diseases of the mind;- Restore the ruined creature, man. Sinners obey the voice, and live; 8. 4 May but this grace my soul renew, Let sinner's gaze, and hate me too; GOD. 1 THERE is a God !-all nature speaks, Through earth, and air, and sea, and skies; See !-- from the clouds his glory breaks, When earliest beams of morning rise! 2 The rising sun, serenely bright, Throughout the world's extended frame, Inscribes, in characters of light, His mighty Maker's glorious name. 3 Ye curious minds, who roam abroad, And trace creation's wonders o'er ! Confess the footsteps of your God; Bow down before him and adore. 1 LORD! when my raptured thought surveys Al nature joins to teach thy praise, 2 Where'er I turn my gazing eyes, Ten thousand pleasing wonders rise, And speak their source divine. 3 On me thy providence hath shone Oh ! let my lips and life make known Thy goodness and thy praise. 4 All-bounteous Lord! thy grace impart; Thy gifts, with ever-grateful heart, And crown them with thy love. H. M. Perfections of God's Government. The garments he assumes Are light and majesty : No mortal eye can bear the sight. His wrath and justice stand To guard his holy law : His truth confirms and seals the grace. 3 Through all his perfect work, And breaks their cursed designs: Strong is his arm-and shall fulfil His great decrees-his sovereign will. I love his name,- I love his word : 1 ETERNAL Wisdom ! thee we praise, Thee, the creation sings; And heaven's high palace rings. 2 How wide thy hand hath spread the sky! How glorious to behold! And starred with sparkling gold. And strike the gazing sight, With terror and delight. Shine through the worlds abroad; |
