Amongst the 12mo. and 8vo. Classes of the present Catalogue, as well as the larger sizes, there are many articles of Rarity and Interest. The examination therefore of those also, may, in some degree, repay the labour of any noble, or other eminent Collectors, of distinguished literary taste, for whom this Country is, perhaps above any other, remarkable.

The Supplement, or Appendix, is particularly rich in scarce articles.

The Titles of the Books are often, especially of the more scarce, copied at length, or nearly so. This will account for the style being frequently rather quaint, or antiquated.

To those who have not attended much to the study of Bibliography, this Catalogue may be interesting and useful, as containing descriptions of a variety of rare works, with the prices attached, and critiques on many of them, collected from our own most celebrated, as well as from Foreign, Bibliographers.

The Compiler living at a distance from the Press, several typographical errors have, he observes with regret, crept in. These, he believes, the candid reader will kindly

excuse.

This celebrated Polyglot Bible of which Cardinal Ximenez was the promoter and patron, is commonly called the Complutensian. The Cardinal employed various learned men to compose it, and gave in those days 4000 Crowns, for seven M. S. S. of the Hebrew Bible. The entire expence of this magnificent production amounted to 50,000 Ducats, which was cheerfully defrayed by his liberality.
